Niechorze Lighthouse - a view that stays in memory
Niechorze Lighthouse - a view that stays in memory
The lighthouse in Niechorze is one of the most recognizable attractions of the Polish coast, located on a high cliff right by the Baltic Sea. It was built in 1866 from facing bricks and has continuously served a navigational function since then, guiding ships. Its distinctive silhouette, combining a square base with an octagonal tower, makes it one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Poland.
The history of the lighthouse is also linked to dramatic events. During World War II, it was damaged by an artillery shell, and the retreating German troops left explosive charges inside it, which fortunately did not detonate. After reconstruction, the lighthouse was put back into operation in 1948, and in the following years it underwent repairs and modernizations, which preserved its original character and functionality.
Today the lighthouse is open to tourists and serves as an excellent viewpoint over the entire Rewal Coast. The tower is 45 meters high, and its light is visible from a distance of about 37 kilometers. To reach the viewing terrace, one must climb over 200 steps, but the panorama of the sea, cliffs, and nearby towns fully rewards this effort.
